Brave New World PosterOur last major project of the year was a Photoshop poster that went along with our Humanities essays (above). to read more about this project, read about my project here.
BNW Poster Reflection
If I were to do this again, what would I change?
I think that first of all, I wouldn't make another poster. A few people in my class made sculptures, and during the exhibition, their projects were much more interactive. With a poster, it was harder to show people at the exhibition my perspective through art, and if I had a sculpture or some other visual that was more interesting, the exhibition would've gone much smoother. |
Flash/ Stop-motion Animation: Domestication of the Dog
For the animation project, my partners Ande Lloyd and Marley Weaver-Gabel and I made a short stop motion animation about the domestication of the dog. I did the majority of the stop motion, while Ande made the set and helped Marley with the computer side of things (mostly so that I didn't make to many of Roxy's computers spontaneously combust). Our animation is to the right, although the sound isn't working. (Clear evidence that computers absolutely hate me and my group). If it doesn't load, try typing this into the URL bar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ansj2i31zkg.
Project Reflection 1. Something that blew my mind from the prehistoric animation lecture: One thing that astonished me from the prehistoric art lecture was monumental architecture, or architecture on a large scale. Prehistoric people had very few tools and next-to no technology, and yet they still managed to build amazing things like Stonehenge and the town of Jericho, which had a tower over 30 ft. tall. It amazed me that people could do so much. 2. My learning process with this project: I didn't use Flash very much, mostly because computers seem to have an undying hate for me and tend to explode and/or shut down whenever I turn them on, but I still learned a lot in this project. We had to make characters for the stop motion part of our animation, and at first, we made clay characters with wire frames. Unfortunately, they dried up, cracked, and fell apart. We spent the next few days felling sorry for our selves and trying to think of something else to uses for characters. eventually we decided to just use wire. Then, we almost burned down the school by leaving our lighting for our set on for more than about two seconds. Finally, after much hard work, learning, and frustration, we finished our animation, and I gained lots of experience and patience from it. 3. My favorite part of flash and why I liked it: because I was working in a group, My job ended up being the actual picture taking for the final animation and locating a few sound effects, although my partner Ande did most of that. So I never really used flash. Instead, I will talk about my favorite part of the project itself: the filming. When you are filming a short animation like this one, you have to stick to a specific story line, but it is very easy and entertaining to add other random pieces along the way. For example, we never story boarded the second scene where the guy gets eaten by the wolf, but we had a little extra time, so we decided to add a little comedy scene before the actual animation. For me, this was certainly the most fun part of the project because it let me be creative, know my job, and stay away from the technology part of the project (although the camera and I did have some serious disagreements...) 4. name a time when you will use flash again: I don't really see my self using flash again anytime soon, but I will certainly use some of the other skills I learned from this project. One such skill is simply a better understanding of the composition involved with filming an animation. When we reconstructed our set for each different scene, we had to think about where everything would go and how that would look on screen. I believe that this skill of needing to think things out before doing them is an excellent one, and absolutely one that I will use again. |

Xtranormal Animation
Over the past week, we did a lecture on the history of animation from the first animations to Avatar in order to help us prepare for making our own animations in Adobe flash. We also created simple animations on Xtranormal.com.

Teacher mini poster project
For the mini poster project, we were supposed to Photoshop one of our teacher’s faces onto a different body. I liked this project mostly because it was so open and had so many options. I think that the main reason that I was successful in this project was that I tried my best to pay attention when Roxy was explaining something. I also used my time very well and didn’t try to make my poster super complex.
If I was going to do this project again, I would try to look at the rubric more often so that I could be sure to put the right elements on my poster. Similarly, if I was to make a recommendation to an incoming freshman about this project, I would tell them to pay attention during lectures and look at their rubric as they went, instead of looking at it at the beginning and end of the project. |
